About the winemaker

The Viñas del Vero winery was set up in Somontano towards the end of 1986 following the purchase of 550 hectares of land in Barbastro and other nearby villages. It is registered under the D. O. Somontano, which lies at the foot of the Pyrenees, in northern Spain, meaning the winery practices northern, inland viticulture. Viñas del Vero owes its name to the river Vero, which is famous for its ravines, gorges and canyons. The water flows parallel to the sheer mountainsides, in the same region as our vineyards. The range of different types of soils, microclimates and altitudes means that at Viñas del Vero we are able to work with a wide array of different grape varieties. Sustainability dictates the steps we take as we move towards the future. Observing the behaviour of the birds in the vineyards and protecting Somontano’s rich biology are just two examples of what for us is a major commitment.

Notes

Average of 8 months in French oak barrels.

Secastilla valley enjoys a special Mediterranean microclimate that is quite distinct from that of the rest of the region and is ideal from growing vines. The name Secastilla is derived from the Latin “Septemcastelum”, or ‘seven castles’ that defended its inhabitants from the Muslim invaders
